The Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer

July 31, 2012

I have read Colfer’s first Artemis Fowl and found it quite a fun read. The Supernaturalist was reasonably priced on Kindle so I decided to pick it up.

Both the story (some nice twists and turns) and the characters appealed to me. I found Colfer’s world building to be excellent, too. His light, witty style reminds me a lot of Rick Riordan, whose series I also enjoy.

This book isn’t going to provide you with much food for thought, but it will pass a few pleasant hours.

I gave The Supernaturalist 5 stars out of 5

    Artemis Fowl

I’ve been intrigued by the Artemis Fowl series. Would you recommend it? I heard good things about it, but from a 15 year old, so wanted to have the opinion of somebody more in my age range 😉
    Thanks

      Re: Artemis Fowl

I did enjoy the first Artemis Fowl book. It wasn’t a series where i had to go out immediately to buy the next books, but it was an enjoyable read. Stylistically, it reminds me of the earlier Harry Potter books without the global overarching themes and the wgorldbuilding is less developed than Rowling’s.

What I did find interesting is that the protagonist, Artemis, is more of an anti-hero than a hero, and the character development is excellent. I found that gave the book more depth than some Young Adult books.

The book is lendable on Kindle if you’d like to borrow it.
