As many of my regular readers will know, I am a big fan of both ebooks and audiobooks. Â For those of you unsure about e-reading or looking to take the first step, take a look at my Newbie’s Guide to eReading. Â If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them. For my audiobook needs I go to Audible. Â Here’s how it works. Â You can either buy audiobooks at full price, wi...
Some months ago a friend recommended Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series to me.  I picked up City of Bones, the first book, from Audible, and found it hard to get past the first few chapters.  In all fairness, that might have been due to the fact that it was the book I selected to listen to at the gym, and for various reasons (my lack of willpower mainly) I didn’t go as often as I should have.  It’s also tr...
Emerald Green is the final book in Kerstin Gier’s Gem Trilogy. Â It follows Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue. Â Originally released in German, the English translation is not available until October 2013. Â However, as I read German I can and will review it for you. The three books in the trilogy read like one long book cut into three parts rather than three separate novels with separate stories and one overarching plot line. I will be r...
I have now had my Kobo Arc fir several days now and this is my update to my initial impressions. My other tablets are a Kindle Fire an iPad 3 and a Nexus 7. I find the smaller form factors of the Nexus and the Kindle Fire very comfortable to use. As with my review of the Kindle Fire, I will discuss how the tasks I usually undertake on my iPad and now the Kindle Fire translate to the Kobo Arc. Generally I don’t use my tablets fo...
Emperor of Thorns by Mark Lawrence is the final book in the Broken Empire trilogy in which Jorg Ancrath tries to consolidate his claim on the Imperial Crown and deal with the threat of the Dead King. Â This is undercut by a past timeline in which he tries to uncover the secrets of the Builders. Regular readers of my blog will know that I was at first unengaged by the Broken Empire trilogy, finding it hard to become emotionally invested ...

So far this week I have only finished one book – Republic of Thieves – on which I have already written and posted a review. Â Short version: I loved it. Added to my library this week: As I mentioned in my last reading roundup, several books were released this week about which I was very excited. Â Emperor of Thorns, Codex Born and Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns were added to my library this week in Kindle format. Â...

I received a free copy of The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch for review. Â This is the third book in Lynch’s Gentlemen Bastards series and I was very much looking forward to reading it. Â In the way that Red Seas Under Red Skies explored Locke’s relationship with Jean through flashbacks and a present day narrative, Republic of Thieves explores our hero’s relationship with the mysterious Sabetha in a similar manner....
